Preparations Well Underway for the Carlow Stages of the 2024 Columban Way Walk – Sat 17th to Wed 21st August

Final touches are being made for this weekends 2024 Heritage Week Columban Way Walk – A Pilgrim Walk for Peace, Healing and Wellbeing. Our Journey of Discovery connects the towns and villages of St. Mullins, Tinnahinch, Borris, Nine Stones Viewing Point, Myshall, Bunclody, Bagenalstown, Leighlinbridge, Carlow Town and Athy walking ancient pilgrim routes along the scenic River Barrow and over the beautiful Blackstairs Mountains. Commencing in Carlow this Saturday 17th August for 5 days before continuing through the counties of Laois, Kildare, Meath, Cavan, Fermanagh, Armagh and ending in Co. Down on the 21st September 2024.

National Heritage Week 2024 celebrates its 19th year this year with the theme “Connections, Routes and Networks” which encompasses the spirit and goals of The Columban Way/Turas Columbanus.

With continued support from Carlow County Council, Carlow Sports Partnership and Carlow Tourism, the purpose of the walks this year is to encourage rural communities to connect and reconnect with each other through their shared cross-cultural heritage associated with Saint Columbanus on his journey along the Columban Way from Mount Leinster in Co. Carlow to Bangor, Co. Down.
Heritage Week provides a valuable opportunity to share the story of Saint Columbanus and the Columban Way with communities along the route, providing opportunity for participation during the schedule of events.

A phrase we use as we continue our work on the Columban Way is Ni Neart Go Cur Le Cheile – There’s no strength without working together
